Agrasys has in-depth expertise and extensive practical experience covering the areas of agricultural biotechnology, genetics and plant breeding.

Genetics, Classical and Molecular Breeding

A focus of the company is in the use of inter-specific hybridization (wide crossing) in order to create new hybrids and to introgress characters of value from wild relatives into crop species. Underpinning these approaches, scientists in the company are experienced in the development of molecular maps using different types of markers (e.g. RFLP, AFLP, microsatellite, DArT) and their application in marker-assisted breeding. The company also uses classical and in vitro mutation breeding technology.

In Vitro Culture, Haploidy, GM

We have extensive experience in using tissue culture, haploid generation from anther, microspore and ovule cultures and genetic modification techniques. Two areas of particular strength are the genetic modification of cereals (with focus on manipulating seed storage protein expression) and the development of transformation technology for crop plant species.

Molecular, Biochemical and Quality Trait Analysis

Agrasys scientists are experienced in the analysis of plant gene expression at all levels, ranging from sequencing and genomics, proteomics and mass spectroscopy to assays of crop quality traits and the development of high-throughput screens based on NIR (near infra red spectroscopy). In addition, we have expertise in the analysis of phytoactive compounds, focusing on antioxidant molecules.

Agronomy, Glasshouse and Field Trials

Agrasys staff are experienced in the design and execution of glasshouse and field trial experiments in a range of crops and have performed several trials of transgenic crops.

Food Technology, Applications Development

Current research in this area is performed via external collaboration / outsourcing and in joint-development projects with business partners.
