Agrasys was founded in 2005 by a small group of industry and academic scientists with extensive experience in crop breeding and biotechnology R&D. The company established its cereal (tritordeum) breeding programme by the agreement of an exclusive license for technology and germplasm from the CSIC.

Since then, the company has received investment from the venture capital company UNINVEST S.G.E.C.R., S.A., and has been awarded NEOTEC and CAPITAL CONCEPTE business development funding and R&D grants from MICINN and Catalan Government programmes. In addition, business and development partnerships have been set up with several cereal food and seed companies.

Agrasys has its main office in the Parc Cientific in Barcelona and performs its breeding research in the Institute for Sostenible Agriculture (IAS) of the Spanish Research Council (CSIC) in Cordoba and food-related research in Barcelona, Cordoba and other research centres.
